I became very passionate about how exercise affects the brains of students when I was teaching reading to struggling 9 th grade students. We started morning clubs at my school and I noticed that those students who came to first period after the basketball or cardio clubs were totally different students – better able to concentrate, better behaved, more energetic, and more focused on their work.
The students in other morning clubs did not show those kinds of dramatic changes. I vowed at that time to spread the word about the importance of including movement throughout the school day. Being an Action Based Learning trainer allows me to help other teachers see how important movement is for themselves and their students.
